Organizes research with the self-hosted Open Notebook alternative to NotebookLM
by k-dense-aiFree
Description
open-notebook is an agent skill for organising research with Open Notebook, a self-hosted alternative to NotebookLM. It arranges sources, notes and AI conversations into research notebooks. Sources can be PDFs, web pages, audio, video and Office files. It supports several AI providers through the Esperanto library, has full-text and vector search, custom transformations, and podcast generation with speaker profiles. The application's storage is self-hosted, but the skill points out that content sent to cloud AI models is not kept local. The skill targets Open Notebook 1.14.0, the latest published release observed on 30 September 2026. Its request and response contracts were checked against the official source and a specific commit of the main branch. Bundled helpers have mocked HTTP regression tests. Deployment, ingestion and paid AI calls were not run against a live instance, so the deployment and remote workflow examples are illustrative. Use it when you want an agent to help organise and search a body of research sources in a notebook you host yourself. It is part of the k-dense-ai scientific agent skills repository on GitHub, which has about 49,600 stars.…
