Find, evaluate, and download common purchasable CAD parts from step.parts
by earthtojakeFree
Description
STEP Parts is an agent skill for finding, evaluating and downloading common purchasable CAD parts from step.parts, a catalog of real components. When a CAD assembly includes an off-the-shelf actuator, servo, motor, electronics board or connector, the skill searches the catalog for it before creating a simplified placeholder shape. For named servos, motors and actuators, it searches both the exact model string and common aliases and vendor spellings, so a search for one part number also finds its variants. Only when the catalog API was reachable and returned no close match does it record a miss and use a documented stand-in. The skill uses the hosted machine endpoints of the catalog rather than scraping the website. It treats catalog records and their descriptions as data for choosing and checking a part, not as instructions. A network failure is treated as inconclusive, and the skill retries once with network permission before reporting that a part is unavailable. It is useful for engineers building assemblies that include real hardware, who want accurate geometry for fit checks in place of guesses. It is published by earthtojake on skills.sh under the text-to-cad repository, with about 10.4K installs. The skills.sh listing shows Gen Agent Trust Hub and Socket passing, with Snyk showing Warn.…
