About az-cost-optimize

az-cost-optimize
Analyze Azure resources and IaC files to identify cost optimizations
az-cost-optimize is an agent skill from the github/awesome-copilot collection for finding cost savings in Azure. It analyzes the infrastructure-as-code files, such as Bicep, Terraform and ARM templates, along with the Azure resources actually deployed in the subscriptions and resource groups, and it collects usage metrics from Log Analytics to check its findings against real behavior. For each optimization opportunity it creates a tracked GitHub issue, and it adds one EPIC issue that coordinates the work, so the savings can be planned and followed to completion. The workflow needs an Azure MCP server and a GitHub MCP server to be configured and authenticated, the target repository to be identified, and the Azure resources to be deployed, although the infrastructure files are optional. The skill prefers the Azure MCP tools over direct Azure CLI calls when they are available. It is useful for teams that want a regular, evidence-based review of cloud spending and a clear list of changes to make. Because the skill creates issues in a GitHub repository, the team should check that the target repository is the right one before the agent runs. The recommendations depend on the metrics available, so savings should be confirmed after each change. The skill is installed with the skills CLI from the github/awesome-copilot repository. Its skills.sh page showed about 8.7K installs and passing results from three security audits at the time of the scan.
