About azure-deployment-preflight

A

azure-deployment-preflight

Validates Bicep deployments to Azure before execution, detecting syntax errors

azure-deployment-preflight is an agent skill from the github/awesome-copilot collection that validates Bicep deployments to Azure before they run. It checks the template syntax, runs a what-if analysis to preview the infrastructure changes a deployment would make, and tests whether the deploying identity has the permissions it needs. It supports both the Azure CLI (az) and the Azure Developer CLI (azd), detecting which workflow a project uses by looking for an azure.yaml file. The skill follows a fixed sequence, and it is designed to continue through all the steps even when one fails, so the final report captures every issue at once rather than stopping at the first. It applies before deploying infrastructure to Azure, when preparing or reviewing Bicep files, to preview what a deployment will change, to confirm permissions are sufficient, and before running azd up, azd provision or az deployment commands. A preflight is a check, not a guarantee, because a what-if result can differ from what actually happens and permissions can change between the check and the deployment. Results should be read before running the real deployment, and the deployment itself should be run by someone with the right authority. The skill is installed with the skills CLI from the github/awesome-copilot repository. Its skills.sh page showed about 9.6K installs and passing results from three security audits at the time of the scan.
