About blobatar

blobatar
Deterministic geometric blobatars from any string. No dependencies
blobatar generates deterministic geometric avatars, called blobatars, from any string. The same name, email, handle or id always produces the same picture, so a user, bot, team or repository can have a stable avatar without uploading an image. The core package has no dependencies and is about 4.4 KB gzipped. You pass a name, and the component draws the avatar. Adapters are published for React, Vue, Svelte 5 and newer, Solid and Preact, and the README says each adapter uses its own framework's JSX or component model. For React Native and Expo, the component uses react-native-svg, and two differences apply: the size prop is required, because React Native has no CSS fallback to size an unsized SVG, and there is no animate prop, because the idle motion is a stylesheet that React Native does not support. Expression works on all platforms. Remaining props pass through to the underlying element, so class names, alt text and styles behave as expected. On the web, the idle motion comes from a stylesheet called motion.css, a root class and a set of seeded custom properties. The project documents its design decisions in architecture decision records, one of which covers how the Svelte component is shipped as source. The README includes usage examples for each framework.
