The UI layer is additive: under the hood it still uses tools, resources and the same wire protocol. The skill says that an app built this way runs in Claude, in ChatGPT and in any other host that implements the apps surface. For developers who have not built a plain MCP server before, it points to a separate build-mcp-server skill for that base layer. The skill documents Claude-specific settings in the _meta.ui block, including the resource URI a tool renders, hiding helper tools from Claude's list, dropping the outer card border on mobile, and declaring external origins for the content security policy, which blocks everything by default. It also covers safe-area insets for notches. Directory submission needs OAuth or no authentication, tool annotations and three to five PNG screenshots. It is for developers adding widgets to an MCP server.
