About caveman-setup

caveman-setup

Wire a repository through the Caveman Cloud gateway

caveman-setup is an agent skill from the caveman project that wires a repository through the Caveman Cloud gateway, so that every LLM request is measured with no change in behavior. Caveman is described as a byte-preserving LLM proxy: in record mode it measures what your app sends and what it costs, and it changes nothing else. The skill asks for a minimal, verified integration rather than a refactor. The prompt that starts it must provide four values: the gateway base URL, the gateway auth secret called CAVE_API_KEY, a choice of provider keys that are either stored encrypted in Caveman Cloud or sent by the app with each request, and the dashboard base URL. If any value is missing, the skill stops and asks for it, and it is told not to guess a URL or mint a key. Its rules on secrets are firm: the API key lives in an environment variable only, is never committed to the repository, and is never printed in full. The skill is triggered by requests such as set up caveman or adding LLM spend tracking. It suits developers who want to measure what their app's LLM calls cost without changing how the app behaves.
