clean-data-xls is an agent skill from the anthropics/financial-services collection for cleaning messy data in a spreadsheet. It works on the active sheet or on a range the user specifies, and it fixes the common problems: trimming stray whitespace, correcting inconsistent capitalization, converting numbers that are stored as text, standardizing dates, removing duplicates, and flagging outliers. Its workflow scopes the work, profiles each column to find its dominant type of text, number or date and the values that do not fit it, and then detects the issues and applies the fixes. Inside Excel it works through Office JavaScript and writes helper columns with formulas such as TRIM, so the original data stays visible, and on a standalone file it uses Python with openpyxl. It is useful for analysts who receive data from several sources and need it consistent before analysis. Cleaning changes data, and removing duplicates or converting values can change the meaning of a column, so the original should be kept and the changes checked against the source before the cleaned data is used. The skill is installed with the skills CLI from the anthropics/financial-services repository. Its skills.sh page showed about 2.0K installs and passing results from three security audits at the time of the scan.
