About context-map

context-map

Analyze codebases and map task-relevant files before implementing changes

context-map is an agent skill from the github/awesome-copilot collection that analyzes a codebase and maps the files relevant to a task before any change is made. It is meant to run first, so the agent has the full context before it edits anything. For a described task, the skill searches the codebase for related files, identifies direct dependencies through imports and exports, finds the tests that cover the code, and looks for similar patterns in existing code that show how the team solves the same kind of problem. The output is a structured Markdown context map that lists the files to modify, the dependency relationships between them, the test coverage, and the reference patterns to follow. This prevents the common failure of changing one file while missing the others that depend on it. The skill is useful when starting work on an unfamiliar part of a codebase, when a change touches shared code, and when a reviewer wants to see the scope of a change before it is made. The map depends on search and static relationships, so dynamic connections such as configuration-driven behavior or runtime loading may not appear, and those should be checked by hand. The skill is installed with the skills CLI from the github/awesome-copilot repository. Its skills.sh page showed about 9.6K installs and passing results from three security audits at the time of the scan.
