About contract-first

contract-first
Coordinate frontend/backend or service-to-service work through one authoritative
contract-first is an agent skill from the ECC collection by affaan-m, listed on skills.sh. It coordinates work across a boundary, whether frontend and backend or two services, through one authoritative contract that a machine can check. The contract can be OpenAPI, AsyncAPI, Protocol Buffers or JSON Schema. Consumers state what they need, providers implement that shape, and both sides verify against the same artifact before integration. The skill is about how a boundary is changed. It works alongside api-design, which covers what a good API looks like, and ai-regression-testing, which guards fixed bugs from returning. Typical triggers are frontend and backend work running in parallel, services exchanging payloads or events, field names and error shapes drifting, a consumer needing several calls because the provider exposed storage models, and mock responses that no longer match production. It suits teams where a change by one person or agent can break a consumer maintained by someone else. A skill is a SKILL.md file of instructions that an AI agent loads when a task calls for it. It is free and open source.
