copilot-instructions-blueprint-generator

Generate GitHub Copilot instruction files

copilot-instructions-blueprint-generator is an agent skill from the github/awesome-copilot collection that generates a copilot-instructions.md file for GitHub Copilot, tailored to a specific project. It scans the project to detect the exact languages, frameworks and library versions in use, then writes instructions that make Copilot produce code compatible with those versions, and consistent with the project's architecture and standards. The generator is configured with variables that cover the project type, the architecture style, the code quality focus, such as maintainability, performance, security, accessibility or testability, the documentation level, the testing requirements such as unit, integration, end-to-end, TDD or BDD, and the versioning scheme. The generated prompt asks that the instructions be strictly based on actual code patterns in the project and avoid assumptions, and it uses a core structure with sections for the rules Copilot should follow. The result is useful because generic instructions often produce code for the wrong version of a framework. The instructions are only as accurate as the scan, so the team should read the generated file and remove any rule that does not reflect how it wants code written. The skill is installed with the skills CLI from the github/awesome-copilot repository. Its skills.sh page showed about 8.9K installs and passing results from Socket and Snyk, with Gen Agent Trust Hub returning a fail at the time of the scan.
