About coreyhaines31/referrals

coreyhaines31/referrals

Design and optimize referral, affiliate, and word-of-mouth programs

referrals is a marketing skill from the marketingskills library for creating, optimizing and analyzing referral programs, affiliate programs and word-of-mouth strategies, where existing customers or partners bring in new customers. It also covers reviews, including review campaigns, G2 reviews and how to respond to a bad review. Before designing a program it asks whether it is for customers, affiliates or both, whether the market is B2B or B2C, the average customer lifetime value, the current acquisition cost from other channels, the current referral rate and any incentives already tried. It first asks whether virality can be built into the product, using a viral potential spectrum. Products with a natural fit, such as collaboration, communication or user-facing outputs, can use mechanisms built into the product, such as badges, embeds, watermarks and social sharing, before or alongside a reward program. Backend, internal and infrastructure products should not force virality, and should invest in referral programs, content and partnerships instead. For virality that is specific to a launch, it points to the launch skill. It is free and MIT-licensed.
