About deanpeters/opportunity-solution-tree

D

deanpeters/opportunity-solution-tree

Generate opportunities and solutions and recommend proof-of-concept tests

opportunity-solution-tree is an interactive skill that builds an Opportunity Solution Tree. It starts from the target outcome in a stakeholder request, generates opportunities (the problems worth solving), maps possible solutions beneath them, and selects a proof-of-concept test based on feasibility, impact and market fit. The result moves a team from a vague feature request to structured discovery, so it solves the right problems before converging on a solution. The skill is meant to avoid what it calls feature factory behavior and premature convergence on ideas. It helps when a stakeholder asks for a specific feature and you want to reframe it as a problem first, when you need to connect a desired outcome to opportunities, solutions and tests, and when leadership needs to see why one solution was chosen over the alternatives. You pass the stakeholder request or outcome as the argument. The estimated session is 30 to 45 minutes, and the skill belongs to the discovery and research theme of the product-manager-skills repository on GitHub.
