declarative-agents

Complete development kit

declarative-agents is an agent skill from the github/awesome-copilot collection, a development kit for building Microsoft 365 Copilot declarative agents, using the v1.5 schema and TypeSpec together with the Microsoft 365 Agents Toolkit. A declarative agent is configured through a manifest rather than custom code, so its behavior is defined by its instructions, its capabilities and the data it can reach. The kit offers three workflows. Basic agent creation suits new developers and simple prototypes: it plans the agent's purpose and users, selects from the available capabilities such as web search, OneDrive and SharePoint, and graph connectors, generates a schema-compliant JSON manifest, and sets up local testing with the Agents Playground. The advanced enterprise workflow covers complex scenarios and production deployment. The validation workflow reviews and optimizes an existing agent. TypeSpec can be used in place of hand-written JSON, producing type-safe definitions that compile to the manifest. The kit is useful for developers building agents for their organization's Microsoft 365 tenant. Capabilities determine what data an agent can read, so each one should be granted deliberately and reviewed with the organization's administrators. The skill is installed with the skills CLI from the github/awesome-copilot repository. Its skills.sh page showed about 8.7K installs and passing results from three security audits at the time of the scan.
