About flox-environments

flox-environments
Create reproducible, cross-platform
flox-environments is an agent skill from the ECC collection by affaan-m, listed on skills.sh. It helps set up reproducible development environments with Flox, a declarative environment manager built on Nix. The environment is defined in one TOML manifest, so every developer on a team, and CI, gets the same packages and configuration on macOS and Linux without containers or virtual machines. Flox provides access to more than 150,000 packages, so system-level tools such as compilers, databases and command-line utilities can sit alongside language dependencies. The skill applies when a project needs several tools to coexist, such as Python 3.11, PostgreSQL 16, Redis and Node.js, or when AI agents need to add packages to a project without sudo. The skill notes that a single language runtime may only need nvm, pyenv or rustup, and that full OS-level isolation may be better served by containers. Flox itself must be installed first. A skill is a SKILL.md file of instructions that an AI agent loads when a task calls for it. It is free and open source, and the skills.sh listing shows all three security audits passing.
