gateguard

PreToolUse fact-forcing gate that denies the first Edit/Write/Bash

gateguard is an agent skill from the ECC collection by affaan-m, listed on skills.sh. It is a PreToolUse hook for Claude Code that blocks the first Edit, Write, Bash, MultiEdit or NotebookEdit attempt until the agent has presented concrete facts about the code it wants to change. Instead of asking the model whether it is sure, the gate asks for specifics, such as a list of every file that imports a module, so the agent has to run its search and read tools before editing. The skill's premise is that the investigation itself changes the output. It is useful in codebases where one edit affects several modules, in projects with data files that have fixed schemas or date formats, in teams that need AI-written code to match existing patterns, and in any workflow where the agent tends to guess rather than check. The gate works in three stages. A skill is a SKILL.md file of instructions that an AI agent loads when a task calls for it. It is free and open source, and the skills.sh listing shows a Gen Agent Trust Hub warning, with Socket and Snyk passing.
