About git-flow-branch-creator

git-flow-branch-creator

Analyzes git changes

git-flow-branch-creator is an agent skill from the github/awesome-copilot collection that looks at your uncommitted changes and creates a Git Flow branch for them. It inspects the staged and unstaged changes with git status and git diff, or git diff --cached for staged changes, then decides which branch type fits: feature, release or hotfix, following the Git Flow branching model. It then creates a branch with a semantic name, such as feature/ followed by a short description of the work. The point is to remove the decision about branch naming and type from the routine of starting work, so that branches follow the same convention across a team. The skill is useful for developers who use Git Flow and want the branch created with the right prefix and a sensible name. The classification is a guess from the diff, so when a change could be either a feature or a hotfix the developer should choose, and the branch name should be read before work continues. Creating a branch does not change the code, but it does change the repository's state, so the developer should confirm the branch name when it matters. The skill is installed with the skills CLI from the github/awesome-copilot repository. Its skills.sh page showed about 9.8K installs and passing results from three security audits at the time of the scan.
