golang-modernize

Modernize Golang code to use recent language features

golang-modernize is an agent skill from the samber cc-skills-golang collection for updating Go code to recent language features, standard library improvements and idiomatic patterns. Its persona is a Go modernisation engineer who puts safety and correctness fixes first, then readability, then gradual improvements. The skill has two modes. In inline mode, used while a developer is working on a feature, it suggests only the modernisations relevant to the current file, and it records other opportunities as a note with the quality gain each would bring, so a broad rewrite does not bury the developer's change. Before suggesting anything it asks once whether to raise the opportunities or skip them, and if the developer skips, it does not raise them again in the session. In full-scan mode, run explicitly or in CI, it uses up to five parallel sub-agents. One looks for deprecated packages and API replacements, one for language features such as range over integers, min and max, any and iterators, one for standard library upgrades such as slices, maps, cmp and slog, one for testing patterns such as t.Context and b.Loop, and one for tooling such as golangci-lint v2, govulncheck, profile-guided optimisation and the CI pipeline. The results are consolidated by priority, and the rewrite is applied in an isolated worktree. The skill covers roughly the last three years of Go releases. It is listed on skills.sh, where the page shows install counts and GitHub stars for the collection.
