harness-creator

Build, audit, and improve harnesses

Harness creator is an agent skill for building, auditing and improving the setup that keeps AI coding agents reliable in a repository. A harness is the set of files that tells an agent how to start, what it may change, how to check its work and how to resume across sessions. The skill says a useful harness has five subsystems: instructions in an AGENTS.md or CLAUDE.md file with the startup path, working rules and definition of done; state in a feature list and progress file recording the current feature, its status and the next step; verification through an init script or documented commands the agent must run before claiming done; scope, which records feature dependencies and done criteria to prevent overreach; and lifecycle, a session handoff file and an end-of-session routine so the next session can restart cleanly. The skill asks that the harness stay small enough for agents to follow it. It is not for choosing models, tuning prompts in isolation, designing chat interfaces or general app architecture. It is listed on skills.sh under the walkinglabs learn-harness-engineering repository, which has about 19.9K stars, with about 2.3K installs.
