About HomeBox (SysAdminsMedia)
HomeBox (SysAdminsMedia)
Inventory and organization system built for the home user
Homebox is an inventory and organization system for home users, aimed at tracking the things in your house with as little setup as possible. It is self-hosted, so your data stays on your own infrastructure, and it is built in Go with minimal resource use, staying under 50 MB of memory at idle. You can run it with Docker or on bare metal, and store its data in SQLite for simplicity or Postgres for larger installations. Items can have custom fields, photos, serial numbers and metadata. Locations are organized in a visual hierarchy, search and filtering find things quickly, and item templates store reusable default fields and values. Labels tag and group items, and QR codes give a quick way to look an item up. The site lists a bill of materials export and CSV import and export for bulk changes. Power-user features include OIDC single sign-on with providers such as Active Directory or Okta, multi-user support for sharing collections with family or housemates, a full REST API for integrations, and built-in health check endpoints for monitoring. One instance can hold several separate collections. The project is licensed under the AGPL-3.0, and the site describes it as free of cost. The docs include a comparison with spreadsheets and with Snipe-IT, and a Discord community and a subreddit.
