Configure Istio traffic management including routing, load balancing
by wshobsonFree
Description
istio-traffic-management is an agent skill from the wshobson/agents collection for configuring traffic management in the Istio service mesh for production use. Istio sits between services in a Kubernetes cluster and controls how requests flow between them, and the skill covers the settings that do this: service-to-service routing rules, load balancing, circuit breakers that stop sending traffic to a failing service, and retries. It explains how to run canary and blue-green deployments, which send a share of traffic to a new version before switching fully to it. It also covers traffic mirroring, which copies live requests to a test version without affecting users, and fault injection, a form of chaos engineering that adds delays or errors on purpose to check that the system copes. The guidance follows the Istio traffic management resources, and it is aimed at platform and site reliability engineers who run services in a mesh and need controlled rollouts. The agent uses the skill to write and review the Istio configuration for a given service, and the configuration should be tested in a non-production cluster before it controls real traffic. The skill is installed with the skills CLI from the wshobson/agents repository. Its skills.sh page showed about 10.1K installs and passing results from three security audits at the time of the scan.…

What is traffic mirroring?
Copying live requests to a test version so it can be checked without affecting users.
Should I test the config first?
Yes. Test it in a non-production cluster before it controls real traffic.
How do I install it?
