java-mcp-server-generator

Generate production-ready MCP servers in Java

java-mcp-server-generator is an agent skill from the github/awesome-copilot collection that creates a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server in Java, using the official MCP Java SDK. It applies to a standalone Java application or a Spring Boot app that should give AI agents tools, resources and prompts. The SDK's version 2.0 series supports the 2025-11-25 revision of the MCP specification and earlier revisions. The skill follows a fixed workflow: create the project, write the server, write the tests, build until the tests pass, and configure the client that will connect to the server. It uses Maven by default and switches to Gradle when the project uses it, following a Gradle reference for those steps. The generated project organizes tools, resources and prompts into separate handler classes, with Maven and Gradle templates that include the MCP SDK, SLF4J logging and Project Reactor for reactive streams. The skill is useful for Java developers who want to expose their own systems to an AI assistant through a server they control. A tool on an MCP server can act on real systems, so each tool should be limited to what is needed and reviewed before the server is connected to an assistant. The skill is installed with the skills CLI from the github/awesome-copilot repository. Its skills.sh page showed about 8.8K installs and passing results from three security audits at the time of the scan.
