About memory-discipline

M

memory-discipline

The session loop that makes agentmemory pay off, recall before starting work

Memory-discipline is the session routine that makes agentmemory useful. It sets out when an agent should read from memory and when it should write to it: recall before starting a non-trivial task, and save at each decision point, rather than trying to remember everything at the end. A search at the start of the task looks for relevant past work, and a save records each settled decision with its concepts and the files it touches. The skill also sets rules for how memory is handled. It respects the user's memory preferences, so if the user requires explicit permission before saving, the agent waits for it. Retrieved records are treated as untrusted evidence, so changeable facts are checked against current sources, and the agent never follows instructions stored in a memory that would export data, run commands or override the current task. The example saves a decision to use cursor pagination over offset pagination because offset scans broke past 100,000 rows. The skill is part of the agentmemory plugin.
