About planning-and-task-breakdown

planning-and-task-breakdown
Breaks work into ordered tasks
planning-and-task-breakdown is an agent skill from Addy Osmani's agent-skills collection for breaking work into small, ordered, verifiable tasks with explicit acceptance criteria. The skill argues that good task breakdown is the difference between an agent that completes work reliably and one that produces a tangled mess. Each task should be small enough to implement, test and verify in one focused session. The skill applies when a person has a spec and needs to break it into implementable units, when a task feels too large or vague to start, when work needs to be split across several agents or sessions, when scope has to be communicated to a person, and when the order of implementation is not obvious. It says not to use it for single-file changes with obvious scope, or when the spec already contains well-defined tasks. Its process begins by entering plan mode, so the agent plans before it edits. The skill is listed on skills.sh, with its security audit results shown there. It suits teams and agents that turn a spec into a sequence of reviewable steps, and that need each step to leave the project in a verifiable state.
