About principle-prove-it-works

principle-prove-it-works
Apply after completing a task, before declaring done
principle-prove-it-works is an agent skill from Cursor's plugins collection that applies a working principle after a task is complete and before it is declared done. The principle is to verify each output by checking the real thing directly: run the feature, read the actual value, inspect the diff. It warns against inferring success from proxies, from self-reports or from the fact that code compiles. The reasoning is that unverified work has unknown correctness, and that indirect checks such as file modification times, output freshness, the agent's own reports or cached screenshots feel cheaper than observing directly, while acting on a wrong inference costs far more than checking the source. The skill asks the agent to check process liveness directly rather than through derived state, to read the actual value rather than a cached copy, and, when a verification fails, to suspect the observation method before suspecting the system. The strongest proof is a deterministic script that reruns the same comparison, and whose output is kept as an artefact a reviewer can run again, rather than a one-time visual check. This principle is useful at the end of any task that changes behaviour, and it is the one most likely to catch a false success. It is listed on skills.sh, where the page shows install counts and GitHub stars for the Cursor plugins repository.
