python-background-jobs

Python background job patterns including task queues, workers

python-background-jobs is an agent skill from the wshobson/agents collection for moving long-running or unreliable work out of the request and response cycle in Python applications. The core idea is that an API accepts a request, places a job on a queue, and returns straight away with a job ID, while background workers process the job asynchronously. This keeps the user waiting only as long as it takes to accept the work. The skill covers the task queue pattern and the worker design that goes with it, and its guidance applies to tasks that take longer than a few seconds, such as sending emails, notifications and webhooks, generating reports or exporting data, and processing uploads or media transformations. It also covers integrating with unreliable external services, where a job can be retried instead of failing the user's request, and building event-driven architectures in which components react to events rather than calling each other directly. Background systems fail in their own ways, such as jobs that run twice or are lost, so the skill's patterns are meant to be applied with care for retries and idempotency. It is installed with the skills CLI from the wshobson/agents repository. Its skills.sh page showed about 10.9K installs and passing results from three security audits at the time of the scan.
