Python configuration management via environment variables and typed settings

python-configuration is an agent skill from the wshobson/agents collection for managing configuration in Python applications through environment variables and typed settings. The principle is that all environment-specific values, such as URLs, secrets and feature flags, come from the environment rather than from the code, so the same code can run in development, staging and production without modification. The skill covers pydantic-settings, a way to declare the settings an application needs as typed fields, so values are converted and checked when the program starts. It also covers managing secrets and sensitive values so that they stay out of source control, creating environment-specific settings, and validating configuration at application startup so that a missing or malformed value fails immediately rather than in the middle of a request. Its uses include setting up a new project's configuration system, moving hardcoded values into environment variables, and implementing typed configuration with pydantic-settings. The agent uses the skill to design the settings classes and to migrate code away from hardcoded values, and the team still chooses how its secrets are stored and delivered. The skill is installed with the skills CLI from the wshobson/agents repository. Its skills.sh page showed about 11.3K installs and passing results from three security audits at the time of the scan.
