About python-design-patterns

python-design-patterns
Fundamental design principles for writing maintainable, testable Python code
python-design-patterns is an agent skill from the wshobson/agents collection that sets out fundamental design principles for writing maintainable, testable Python code. It covers five core ideas: KISS, or keeping things simple by choosing the simplest solution that works and justifying any extra complexity with real requirements; the Single Responsibility Principle, which gives each module or class one clear job; Separation of Concerns, which keeps different kinds of work, such as data access, business rules and presentation, apart; Composition Over Inheritance, which builds behavior by combining parts rather than by deep class hierarchies; and the Rule of Three, which waits until a pattern has appeared three times before abstracting it. The skill includes practical code examples that contrast anti-patterns with better versions, so the difference is visible in code. It applies when designing new components or services, refactoring complex or tangled code, deciding whether to create an abstraction, choosing between inheritance and composition, evaluating code complexity and coupling, and planning modular architectures. The principles are judgment aids rather than rules to apply mechanically, so the agent uses them to weigh a design against the code and requirements in front of it. The skill is installed with the skills CLI from the wshobson/agents repository. Its skills.sh page showed about 22.4K installs and passing results from three security audits at the time of the scan.
