python-mcp-server-generator

Complete Python MCP server project generator

python-mcp-server-generator is an agent skill from the github/awesome-copilot collection that generates a complete Model Context Protocol (MCP) server project in Python with the official MCP Python SDK, version 2. The SDK supports the 2026-07-28 revision of the MCP specification and also serves clients that use earlier revisions. The skill follows a fixed workflow: create the project, write the server, write the tests, run them until they pass, and configure the client that will connect. It scaffolds the project with uv, which manages the Python environment, along with the directory structure and a .gitignore. The server supports two transport types: stdio for local use, where the client starts the server as a process, and streamable HTTP for remote use, with options for the host, port and whether the session is stateful. It is useful for developers who want to give an AI assistant access to Python functions, an API or a database through a server they control. A server exposes tools that can act on real data, so each tool should be limited to what is needed and reviewed before a client is connected. Remote servers should be secured with authentication before they are reachable from the internet. The skill is installed with the skills CLI from the github/awesome-copilot repository. Its skills.sh page showed about 10.4K installs and passing results from three security audits at the time of the scan.
