About Selfoss
Selfoss
New multipurpose rss reader, live stream, mashup, aggregation web application
selfoss is a web-based, multi-purpose RSS reader and aggregator that streams and collects posts, feeds and other sources into a single place. It is open source under GPL-3.0 and is written in PHP. The site describes it as lightweight, at around 25 MB, with easy installation: you upload the files and run it. It supports MySQL, PostgreSQL and SQLite databases, and an adaptive layout that works on Android, iOS and iPad, with a third-party Android app also available. Feeds can be imported from other apps using OPML, and the application has an open plug-in system for writing your own data connectors, called spouts. A RESTful JSON API lets developers build against it. Documentation covers installation and configuration options, updating, usage such as importing and exporting data and filtering sources, shortcuts, customisation, creating spouts, and a development guide. The frequently asked questions explain how to find a feed on a site, how feed auto-detection works when you add a web address, and why items sometimes go missing, since old items are removed after a configurable lifetime. Source is on GitHub under fossar and is maintained by Jan Tojnar, having been created by Tobias Zeising with contributors. The current release is 2.19.
