SQLite file format, B-trees, pages, cells, overflow, freelist
by tursodatabaseFree
Description
Storage format is an agent skill that describes the SQLite file format used by the Turso database, tursodb. It explains the layout of a database file, which is a sequence of pages. Page 1 holds the database header, which occupies the first 100 bytes, and the schema. Pages 2 onward hold B-tree pages for tables and indexes, along with overflow pages for large cells and freelist pages for space that can be reused. Page sizes are powers of two from 512 to 65536 bytes, with 4096 as the default. The skill covers the B-tree structure, cells and overflow handling, and the freelist, and it is meant as a reference for engineers who need to read or write the on-disk format that tursodb shares with SQLite. Because the format is fixed, the guide is useful when a change touches pages, cells or the header and the code must stay compatible with files that SQLite can read. It is listed on skills.sh under the Turso repository and is written for contributors to the database. Its audit results are Gen Agent Trust Hub: Pass, Socket: Pass and Snyk: Pass.…
