About team-composition-patterns

team-composition-patterns

Design optimal agent team compositions

team-composition-patterns is an agent skill from the wshobson/agents collection for designing multi-agent teams in Claude Code's Agent Teams feature. It gives best practices for deciding how many teammates to start for a task, using sizing heuristics, choosing between preset team configurations, and selecting the right agent type, the subagent_type, for each role. It also covers configuring how teammates are displayed, whether in tmux, in iTerm2 or in process, and building custom team compositions for workflows that the presets do not fit. The main point is that more agents are not always better: a team adds coordination cost, so the size should match how much independent work the task contains. The skill applies when deciding how many teammates to spawn, choosing among presets, matching agent types to roles, setting display modes, and designing a non-standard team. The sizing advice is a starting point, and the results should be judged on the task's actual output, since the right team for one kind of work can be too big for another. The skill is installed with the skills CLI from the wshobson/agents repository. Its skills.sh page showed about 9.4K installs and passing results from three security audits at the time of the scan.
