About tech-debt

Identify, categorize, and prioritize technical debt

Tech-debt is an agent skill that identifies, categorizes and prioritizes technical debt in a codebase or system. It sorts debt into several categories, each with examples and the risk it carries. Code debt includes duplicated logic, poor abstractions and magic numbers, and its risk is bugs and slow development. Architecture debt, such as a monolith that should be split or the wrong data store, leads to scaling limits. Test debt, meaning low coverage, flaky tests and missing integration tests, means regressions ship. Dependency debt covers outdated or unmaintained libraries and carries security risk. Documentation debt, such as missing runbooks and outdated READMEs, creates onboarding pain, and infrastructure debt, such as manual deploys and missing monitoring, adds operational risk. The skill then prioritizes the items using a framework, so the team knows what to refactor first. You trigger it with phrases such as tech debt, technical debt audit, what should we refactor or code health.
