About Textgen
Textgen
Open-source desktop app for local LLMs
TextGen is an open-source desktop app for running large language models locally. It has a chat and generation interface, and an OpenAI- and Anthropic-compatible API. The project's own description says it has no telemetry and works fully offline. Downloads are portable builds for Linux, Windows and macOS, with CUDA, Vulkan, ROCm and CPU-only options, and all dependencies included. Models in GGUF format from llama.cpp can be loaded by placing the file in the user_data/models folder, where the interface detects it. The app supports several backends, including llama.cpp, ik_llama.cpp, Transformers, ExLlamaV3 and TensorRT-LLM, and you can switch between backends and models without restarting. Chat modes include instruction-following and character chat, with messages that can be edited, branched and navigated by version. Attachments can be images, text files, PDFs and .docx files. Tools can be added as single Python files, and MCP servers are supported. The app also includes LoRA fine-tuning and a tab for diffusers image models. It suits people who want to run models on their own computer and keep their conversations private.
