About tool-rename-deprecation

tool-rename-deprecation
Ensure renamed built-in tool references preserve backward compatibility
tool-rename-deprecation is an agent skill from the Microsoft VS Code repository, listed on skills.sh. It checks that renaming a built-in tool or tool set keeps backward compatibility. When a tool's reference name, a tool set's reference name or any tool identifier changes, the old name must be kept in the deprecated or legacy list, so that existing prompt files, tool configurations and saved references still resolve. The skill applies to any change to built-in tool or tool set registration, to renaming a tool's reference name, to moving a tool from one set to another, where the old set and tool path becomes a legacy name, and to reviewing a pull request that touches tool registration to make sure no legacy name was dropped. The procedure starts by working out whether a tool or a tool set changed and where it is registered. A skill is a SKILL.md file of instructions that an AI agent loads when a task calls for it. It is free and open source, and the skills.sh listing shows all three security audits passing.
