About workflow-orchestration-patterns

workflow-orchestration-patterns
Design durable workflows with Temporal for distributed systems
workflow-orchestration-patterns is an agent skill from the wshobson/agents collection for designing durable workflows with Temporal in distributed systems. Temporal keeps a workflow's state persistent, so a process that spans machines, services and databases can resume from its last successful step after a failure rather than starting over. The skill covers the architecture decisions behind that: separating workflows, which hold the logic and must be deterministic, from activities, which do the side-effecting work such as calling an API. It also covers saga patterns for all-or-nothing outcomes, state management, determinism, and resilience patterns. It lists the situations where Temporal fits well, including multi-step processes across systems, distributed transactions that need all-or-nothing semantics, long-running workflows lasting hours to years, failure recovery from the last step, business processes such as bookings and orders, lifecycle management of entities, infrastructure automation such as CI/CD and provisioning, and human-in-the-loop flows with timeouts and escalations. It also lists when not to use it, which is the other half of the design decision. The skill applies when deciding whether and how to design a durable workflow. It is a guide to architecture, and the team should weigh the operational cost of running Temporal against the problem before adopting it. The skill is installed with the skills CLI from the wshobson/agents repository. Its skills.sh page showed about 11.8K installs and passing results from three security audits at the time of the scan.
