About write-agentmemory-skill

write-agentmemory-skill

The house format and rules for writing or updating an agentmemory skill

Write-agentmemory-skill sets out the house format and rules for writing or updating a skill in the agentmemory plugin. It is for anyone adding a new skill, restructuring an existing one, or reviewing a skill's format. The format is tiered so that skills stay skimmable, accurate and current. Each skill lives in its own folder, with a required SKILL.md file that must stay under 100 lines, and optional reference, examples and troubleshooting files for dense facts, worked transcripts and support notes. The front matter contains the name, the description and optional settings, and the description is two sentences: the first states the capability, and the second begins with use when and lists concrete triggers. The body follows a fixed order: a quick start with one concrete example, the governing principle, numbered workflow steps with decision gates, anti-patterns shown as wrong and right, a checklist, cross-links to related skills, and a pointer to the reference or troubleshooting file. Skill folders keep their supporting files inside, so each one works when installed on its own.
