Cognira (cognira.dev) is an independent, privacy-first AI platform built by engineer Thomas Conway. Designed to counter black-box cloud systems, Cognira focuses on local-first computing, transparent memory, and continuous self-learning on consumer hardware. At its core is Cognira Retrain, a guarded learning engine that updates model weights and adaptive memory from user corrections without catastrophic forgetting. Its hosted reference model (Cognira Retrain 12B) runs efficiently via Apple MLX, offering full auditability and instant memory removal. For complete data sovereignty, Cognira Entity provides a standalone, air-gapped binary for Windows, macOS, and Linux. It executes inference and updates locally with zero telemetry while exposing OpenAI-compatible endpoints. Communication is driven by Proto, a typed protocol and serialization layer that ensures deterministic tool calls, sandboxed actions, and inter-process messaging.
