About caveman-commit

caveman-commit
Terse, conventional commit messages that prioritize reasoning over description
caveman-commit is an agent skill from the caveman project that writes Git commit messages in a terse, conventional form, compressed to the intent of the change. It enforces the Conventional Commits format: a type such as feat, fix, refactor, perf, docs, test, chore, build, ci, style or revert, an optional scope, and an imperative subject line, such as add, fix or remove. The subject should be 50 characters or fewer when possible, with a hard cap of 72, and it has no trailing period. The skill asks the agent to match the project's convention for capitalization after the colon. The body is optional. It is left out when the subject is self-explanatory, and it is added only for a non-obvious reason, a breaking change, a migration note or a linked issue, wrapped at 72 characters. Bullets use hyphens, and issues or pull requests are referenced at the end, such as Closes #42 or Refs #17. The skill is triggered by requests to write a commit or a commit message, and by the /commit and /caveman-commit commands. Its guiding idea is to explain why a change was made, since the diff already shows what changed, which suits developers who want a short, consistent commit history.
