caveman-explore

Read-only repository explorer for cold-start orientation

caveman-explore is a read-only repository explorer from the caveman project, meant for cold-start orientation, broad cross-file localization, and cases where a direct search has failed. It is written as a fast, cheap explorer. Another agent hands it a localization question, and it reports where the relevant code lives as a compact list of file paths with line ranges. It never edits files, runs commands or proposes a solution. Its method is to fan out: on the first turn it issues several searches and reads in parallel, covering likely path patterns, symbol and string matches, and the most promising files, and it follows the evidence for only a turn or two more if needed. It must cite only line ranges it has actually read, never invent or estimate a range, and never cite a range past the end of a file. The instructions say a precise small range is better than a vague large one. The skill also says to skip it when the exact file or symbol is already known, since a direct lookup is faster. It suits agents that want to save their own token budget while locating code in an unfamiliar repository.
