About create-architectural-decision-record

C

create-architectural-decision-record

Structured Architectural Decision Record generator

create-architectural-decision-record is an agent skill from the github/awesome-copilot collection that writes an Architectural Decision Record (ADR), a short document that records a significant technical decision, why it was made, and what follows from it. The ADR is formatted for both AI and human readers and is managed as a sequentially numbered file, so the history of decisions stays in order. The skill needs four inputs: the context that made the decision necessary, the decision itself, the alternatives that were considered, and the stakeholders involved. If any of these cannot be found in the conversation, the agent asks the user for them before it writes anything. The document uses front matter and sections for the context, the decision rationale and the consequences, with the consequences divided into positive and negative outcomes so that the trade-offs are visible. Recording the rejected alternatives and the downsides is what makes an ADR useful later, when someone asks why a choice was made. The skill is useful for architects and teams that want decisions written down at the time they are made. An ADR records a decision, and it should be reviewed by the stakeholders named in it before it is accepted. The skill is installed with the skills CLI from the github/awesome-copilot repository. Its skills.sh page showed about 10.1K installs and passing results from three security audits at the time of the scan.
