Istio sits between services in a Kubernetes cluster and controls how requests flow between them, and the skill covers the settings that do this: service-to-service routing rules, load balancing, circuit breakers that stop sending traffic to a failing service, and retries. It explains how to run canary and blue-green deployments, which send a share of traffic to a new version before switching fully to it. It also covers traffic mirroring, which copies live requests to a test version without affecting users, and fault injection, a form of chaos engineering that adds delays or errors on purpose to check that the system copes.
