About mode-creator

M

mode-creator

Interactively create, install, activate, and verify custom claude-mem modes

mode-creator is a skill from the claude-mem project that walks a user through creating, installing, activating and verifying a custom claude-mem mode. A mode defines the kinds of notes the memory keeps. The skill's aim is to produce a useful note-taking system, not just a valid file. It works by interviewing the user in small batches of questions through an interactive question tool, proposing a small taxonomy, getting approval, installing the mode durably, configuring optional alerts, restarting the worker, and proving that the active mode appears in the startup context. It explains observation types as mutually exclusive kinds of notes and concepts as reusable tags, and it avoids jargon unless the user uses it first. Before inventing anything, it inspects the bundled and user modes and reuses or adapts a close match where that serves the user. Custom files are installed in the modes folder of the claude-mem data directory, and the bundled modes are never edited. The skill handles Telegram alerts with care: the bot token is treated as a password and never shown in chat, command arguments, logs or tool output. Existing settings and triggers are preserved, and backups are made.
