on-call-handoff-patterns

Master on-call shift handoffs

on-call-handoff-patterns is an agent skill from the wshobson/agents collection for handing over on-call responsibility cleanly from one shift to the next. A handoff that loses context is a common cause of repeated work and slow incident response, so the skill focuses on what a good handoff contains and how it is delivered. Its core concepts start with the components of a handoff: the state of the systems, the alerts and incidents that are still open, the ongoing investigations and what has been tried, the escalation paths and the people to contact, and the actions due during the next shift. The skill covers writing shift handoff summaries that a person can act on quickly, documenting ongoing investigations so the next responder does not restart them, and setting up on-call rotation procedures that make handoffs routine. It also covers improving the quality of handoffs over time and onboarding new on-call engineers, who need the same information in a form they can learn from. It applies when responsibility is transitioning between on-call engineers, when someone is writing a handoff summary, when an investigation is still open at a shift change, and when a team is setting up its rotation. The skill is installed with the skills CLI from the wshobson/agents repository. Its skills.sh page showed about 10.1K installs and passing results from three security audits at the time of the scan.
