About principle-build-the-lever

principle-build-the-lever
Apply to any non-trivial work, not just bulk work: edits, migrations, analyses
principle-build-the-lever is an agent skill from Cursor's plugins collection that applies a working principle to any non-trivial work, not only bulk jobs: edits, migrations, analyses and checks. When work is not trivial, the principle says to build the tool that does it or proves it, such as a codemod, a script or a generator, instead of doing it by hand. A tool does the same work the same way every time, can be rerun at no cost, and is a single artefact a reviewer can read and rerun to check the work. Hand-made changes can only be verified by redoing them, whereas a deterministic script turns trust into something that can be run. The default is to build the lever, and the principle is skipped only for trivial work such as a couple of obvious edits. A recommended approach is to do the first unit by hand to learn the recipe, then build the tool and prove it by rerunning it on that unit and comparing with the hand-made result. The tool should be safe to rerun. The principle is useful when a migration or a change touches many files, and when a team needs to be able to check that a change was made consistently. It is listed on skills.sh, where the page shows install counts and GitHub stars for the Cursor plugins repository.
