About pyzotero

pyzotero
Manages Zotero reference libraries
pyzotero is an agent skill for managing Zotero reference libraries with the pyzotero Python client, a wrapper for the Zotero API version 3. It can read items and collections, create and update references, upload attachments, manage tags, delete items, and export citations. It is for scripting work on your own library or a group library. The reviewed target is pyzotero 1.15.2, checked on 30 September 2026 against the official SDK documentation, the release source and the Web API contracts. The skill explains how to set up access for remote private reads and writes. You create an API key in your Zotero settings, find your user ID on the same page, and, for a group library, use the integer that appears after /groups/ in the group's URL. You then keep the user ID, key and library type in environment variables or a .env file, so the key is not written into code. Examples that need a private library or a running Zotero are illustrative, and the review's public read-only probes do not show that authenticated writes succeed. Use it when you want an agent to tidy a reference library, add records in bulk, or pull citations into a document.
