spanner-basics

Assists in provisioning instances and databases, designing performant schemas

Spanner basics is an agent skill for provisioning instances and databases, designing schemas and querying data in Cloud Spanner, Google's fully managed database service with global transactional consistency and synchronous replication for high availability. Its core principle is performance through key design. Because Spanner scales horizontally, the skill always warns against putting monotonically increasing or decreasing values, such as sequential timestamps, at the start of a primary key, since that creates hotspots. Its schema guidance prefers interleaved tables for strongly related parent and child data that is read together. The safety rule is strict: before making any change to a non-emulator database, whether a data change or a schema change, or any destructive operation such as dropping a table or index, the agent must get your explicit confirmation. It outputs the command, such as the gcloud DDL update, and waits for your approval rather than running it. The skill is aimed at developers and database administrators working with Spanner. It is published by Google on skills.sh under the google skills repository, with about 4.2K installs. The skills.sh listing shows Gen Agent Trust Hub, Socket and Snyk all passing.
