variance-commentary

Write flux commentary for every P&L and balance-sheet line over threshold

variance-commentary is an agent skill from Anthropic's financial-services collection, listed on skills.sh. It writes flux commentary for every profit and loss or balance-sheet line that is over a threshold. Given current-period actuals, prior-period actuals and budget for the same scope, it builds a commentary table. A line is flagged if its absolute variance is at or above the firm's materiality threshold, using the value provided, or by default 5% of the line or a fixed floor, whichever is greater. Lines on the always-comment list, such as revenue, headcount cost and cash, are flagged whatever their size. For each flagged line the table shows the account, the current, prior and budget values, the change against prior period and against budget in amount and percentage, and a driver. The driver is one sentence explaining the movement from the underlying activity, and the skill is told not to restate the number. It suits finance teams preparing month-end or quarterly variance reports.
