Navigate the PM→Director mindset shift covering scope, time horizons
by deanpetersFree
Description
altitude-horizon-framework is a product management skill that explains the move from product manager to director as a change along two axes. Altitude is how wide you zoom out, and horizon is how far ahead you look. The skill uses that two-axis model to show what actually changes in the transition, and to diagnose which transition zone is creating friction in your role. When organizational direction is vague or missing, it can apply a Cascading Context Map to build context from a loose company strategy. Its best uses are understanding what changes when you become a director, finding the part of the shift that is not clicking after a promotion, and creating direction for a team that has none. The skill is written as a component-style reference, with an estimated time of 10 to 15 minutes. It belongs to the career and leadership theme of the product-manager-skills collection on GitHub.…
