About deanpeters/press-release

deanpeters/press-release
Clarify product vision with a future press release
press-release is a product management skill that writes an Amazon-style press release for a product or feature before anything is built. It follows Amazon's Working Backwards method: you write the announcement first, so the customer value is defined up front. Use it to align stakeholders on the value proposition, clarify the problem being solved, and test whether the product story resonates. The press release works as a forcing function for clarity and customer focus. It is also a way to kill a weak idea early, because an idea that cannot be written up as news is usually not clear enough to build. Typical uses include checking whether the value of a large upcoming build is real before any spec is written, and settling a disagreement about what a launch promises customers by writing the launch as news. You pass the product or feature idea as the argument. The estimated time is 30 to 45 minutes, and the skill belongs to the PM artifacts theme of the product-manager-skills repository on GitHub.
